We went from Greenley Pond trail up to East Osceola and then grabbed Mount Osceola and turned around. Osceola Trail, many hikers choose to continue along the Greeley Pond Trail to the ponds themselves for a casual day hike.After this easy stretch of trail, we turned right on the Mount Osceola Trail which ascends a very steep 1.5 miles to the summit of East Osceola. Osceola and East Osceola are two of the easier 4,000 footers at 4,156 and 4,315 feet, respectively. These peaks are located in an area of the Whites that I haven't done much hiking in, east of the Sandwich Range Wilderness, and about 20 miles south of the Appalachian Trail. I need to come back here.The hike up Mt Oceaola was a bit challenging. After hiking up Mount Osceola Trail for 2.1 miles, look for a ledge on the left that offers views of Sandwich Mountain. With the incoming storm and snowfall intensifying, we re-climbed East Osceola and descended steeply in crampons, with ice axes ready to arrest a fall.I love walking down this side of East Osceola, across and past the avalanche slide that runs alongside the Osceola Ridge Trail.
