Wonderful cinematography by Roger Deakins and atmospheric musical score by Nick Cave.

Andrew had a whole lot of photographic references for the look of the movie, mainly the work of still photographers, but also images clipped from magazines, stills from Nick Cave had a minor part in the latter part of the film.Cave and Ellis released a double disc album titled The film opened in limited release on September 21, 2007, in 5 theaters and grossed $147,812 in its opening weekend, an average of $29,256 per theater.The film received positive reviews and garnered a wide range of awards.

Hate me if you want, but the pacing was perfect.

Hero worship. It is an epic allegory about the development of the American cult of celebrity and the effects of this obsession on the individuals caught in its web.

It's long and punctuated only at lengthy intervals by any kind of gunplay. When the credits started to roll I didn't move at all, I sat staring at the screen just thinking about what I just watched.

I can't say the movie didn't FEEL two hours and forty minutes long but I never wanted it to end sooner than it did. Casey Affleck's has officially come into his own. I had been put off by the fact that it was going to be quite a long film which, essentially, I knew the outcome of before even watching. The two and half hours flew by for me which is often the sign of a great movie. As Ford, Affleck is unforgettable.

But that's just a small part of the visceral, assured strength of a film that takes its time unfolding and trusts in the performances of a well rounded, tight, cast. I was glued to my seat. Assassination of Jesse James is my favorite movie and the soundtrack by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis really elevates each scene. According to the CD liner notes, Cave played piano, celesta and other keyboards, while Ellis played violin, viola, guitar and keyboards. But it's also not averse to close-ups. It's hard to imagine this film being much of a success, despite starring Brad Pitt. The soundtrack for The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford represents the serious sides of both Cave and Ellis and shows their fans what more they are capable of beyond their alternative goth rock foundations. Do not expect the wild west or gun fights at every corner. The musical score does its job: to blend into the film so subtly that I cant imagine the images on the screen without it. Such a style beggars all description in a familiar Western story about the shooting of Jesse James, a crumb bum of the first order. The title allows us to sit back and enjoy the journey of Robert Ford in his quest to become famous, and Jesse James' journey into infamy and legendary myth. Cave and Ellis composed all the music.

James's folklore image could be a product of some of these factors. Had anything been compromised, I don't think I would have enjoyed my time nearly as much. 133 out of 230 found this helpful. Young Robert quickly learns that the exploits of the murderous train-robbers are far from the exciting flights of fancy he grew up reading about in newspapers and dime-store novels.

From writer/director Andrew Dominik comes the long titled and lengthy timed The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford starring Academy Award nominee Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck. I've been thinking of a good way to start my review, I've been pondering many opening sentences, but none of them are close enough to the point, so I've decided to just say that this film is perfect in all aspects. He is fragile, yet vicious; torn between feelings of adulation and disgust towards Jesse the man, not the legend he envisaged. An elegiac Western with a strong Terrence Malick flavour, Dominik's movie is thoughtful, slow-paced, as it follows the last year of life of outlaw Jesse James (Brad Pitt) through the eyes of Robert Ford (Casey Affleck), the young and initially starstruck gang member who eventually shot him. If you don't know the history behind the real life character of Jesse James before then the title is a real giveaway as to what to expect in terms of its ending - but this is in no way a bad thing.
